Homes of Hope, February 2010
COMPLETED
Our first project for Olivia’s Basket was a house we built in Baja, Mexico through Homes of Hope.
We didn’t do this on our own. Good friends from Texas, Fayetteville and even California joined us for the two day build that seemed to “build” more in ourselves than simply a new home for a needy family. We painted, hammered, sawed, and worked our way toward handing over the keys to a young couple due to have a baby any minute. The house was completely outfitted with a bed and bedding, stove, kitchen table, pretty curtains and all the kitchen necessities you can think of. Our team also brought along baby clothes and even took the young couple to the grocery store for the first time.
There were a lot of firsts on this build.
To date, Homes of Hope has built over 300 homes in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Haiti. It felt good to add another one to the list. More than just one life was changed…including ours.
