Leverett Butterfly Bench and Tree
This beautiful and unique “Butterfly Bench” designed by Eugene Sargent will be placed on the hillside overlooking the playground at Leverett Elementary School. A specially chosen oak tree will planted to shade it. Many wonderful afternoons were spent watching Olivia and her friends play from this spot on the hill.
When her fourth grade class was asked what they would like the bench to look like, they suggested a butterfly because, as they said, “Olivia liked butterflies.”
Thanks to the Leverett PTO, our neighborhood association and many friends, the butterfly bench will soon become more than just a pretty picture. The spring of 2010, Eugene Sargent, the bench designer, will begin work on this unique project.
We are intensely grateful to everyone that saw how special this is. We are humbled and elated. What will it be like for us when we sit on this bench one day? That’s hard to say. But we do know, that Olivia would have loved it. Perhaps that is the best thing of all. Thank you.
