Leverett Butterfly Bench and Tree

This beautiful and unique “Butterfly Bench” designed by Eugene Sargent is placed on the hillside overlooking the playground at Leverett Elementary School. A specially chosen oak tree was planted to shade it. Many wonderful afternoons were spent watching Olivia and her friends play from this spot on the hill.

When her fourth grade class was asked what they would like the bench to look like, they suggested a butterfly because, as they said, “Olivia liked butterflies.”

Thanks to the Leverett PTO, our neighborhood association and many friends, the butterfly bench is a beautiful reality.
